Few people have discussed the cost savings of going from a town attorney to a city attorney. In the city / town discussions hosted by the Town of Fishers, the Carmel city attorney stated that when Carmel switched from a town to a city, their legal expenses dropped substantially.
Fishers has higher legal fees over neighboring Carmel.
In a town form of government, the attorney is a contractor to the town. There business model is to make money.
In a city form of government such as Noblesville, the attorney is an employee where costs are controlled.
The city attorney does not make more money by stringing out litigation.
If residents have issues, would a town attorney try to stretch out their legal fees? Would a city attorney try to resolve issues quickly?
Only by voting NO to Question 1 and YES to Question 2 would these saving be realized.
