What is a merger? A merger is defined as two governmental entities merging into one entity. For example two townships merging into one or a city and county merging into one entity such as Indianapolis.
The Fall Creek Township and Fishers merger would eliminate Fall Creek Township government and its duties would be administered by the Town of Fishers. The merger would also annex all unincorporated residents into the Town of Fishers.
The Fall Creek Township Board and the Fishers Town Council ratified a merger on Dec 20, 2010. The merger would:
1) Eliminate the government of the township and abolish the township trustee and township board. The duties would be performed by the Town of Fishers.
2) Would annex all unincorporated residents in Fall Creek Township and they would become Fishers residents.
3) Would eliminate the Fall Creek Township Board of Zoning Appeals for the unincorporated residents, which would eliminate a board of rural peers for rural residents.
4) Would eliminate the two unicorprated members to the Fishers Plan Commission reducing rural representation to the Town of Fishers.
5) Would double the township tax rate for the unincorporated residents to the Fishers tax rate.
6) Unincorprated residents would see a 15% - 20% increase in their taxes applied by the Town of Fishers.
A referendum will be placed on the Nov 2012 ballot for the Fishers and unincorporated residents in Fall Creek Township to vote on.
The referendum question will read: “Shall the Town of Fishers
and Fall Creek Township reorganize as a single political subdivision?”
The next post will be the negative affects of the merger to the HSE School System.
